West Dorset MP Chris Loder has welcomed the news that Dorset will be awarded over £4.5 million to extend the Household Support Scheme, enabling Dorset Council to provide support for eligible households until 31st March 2024.
Mr Loder, who has been campaigning in the House of Commons for more support for Dorset Council, said of the announcement; “I am pleased to see the Government fully investing in the wellbeing of rural communities who remain in need of assistance in difficult economic circumstances”.
The Household support fund provides Councils with some flexibility on how that funding is spent, such as by supporting people’s energy bills. Dorset Council are also using this to fund school meal vouchers for eligible families during the February half term and Easter Holidays.
The Local MP continued: “this will provide much needed security for the Council and all those who depend on this support”.
