West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder held a summit on Friday 19th May to address flooding issues at Sydling St. Nicholas. Villagers and representatives from the Environment Agency and Wessex Water were in attendance.
The summit follows a significant incident of flooding in late January and early February this year. The village is especially prone to groundwater flooding, particularly as it is situated in a valley with the presence of chalk streams nearby.
At the summit, Mr Loder received assurances from Wessex Water that improvements are scheduled to be undertaken over the course of the next six months to the village’s sewer pipeline. The Environment Agency also intends for Sydling St Nicholas to benefit from number of their flood resilience schemes. Mr Loder said:
"Flooding at Sydling St. Nicholas is not a new phenomenon, and it is only right that villagers know what Wessex Water and the Environment Agency plan to do to resolve this issue. I will continue to support the efforts of all parties involved and I am urging for a timely resolution and to make sure that the sewage works are able to cope with the water pressures it faces.”.
