West Dorset’s MP has said it is a ‘fantasy’ to believe that stroke patients from Yeovil will be going to Taunton for their treatment, when the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) is closed. The local MP has scrutinised Somerset NHS Foundation Trust’s over the past few weeks, which will not see stroke patients taken to Taunton but to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester which is not ready to provide critical life-saving stroke treatment, with the worst stroke patients going to Southampton.
Mr Loder said: “It is a fantasy to believe that stroke patients from Yeovil will be staying in Somerset. They will not be going to Taunton for their treatment; they be going to Dorchester, and if necessary on to Southampton.”
He added: “I am continuing to question the plans put forward by NHS Somerset Foundation Trust, and to stand up for my constituents who will be adversely affected by this proposal if it continues.”
