Dorset Council ranks in the top five of local authorities for heat pump grants in the South West, following a high-profile rural energy campaign by Chris Loder MP. Since the Boiler Upgrade Scheme was introduced, over 330 households in Dorset have taken advantage of grants worth £7,500 for air source heat pumps and Mr Loder is encouraging further applications.
Mr Loder said: “I’ve been working hard to ensure rural residents who live off the gas grid aren’t burdened with the unnecessary cost of changing their heating systems. I’m glad that so many households have taken advantage of this scheme, and I encourage other Dorset households to investigate the benefits of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.”
He added: “I’ve already successfully opposed plans to mandate rural households to change their current heating systems by 2026, which would have imposed a cost of thousands of pounds on rural households. It’s important that we take a pragmatic and measured approach to achieving net zero, which latest data shows the UK is already halfway towards achieving.”
