100% of storm overflows across West Dorset’s water network have now been fitted with Event Duration Monitors (EDMs) following relentless pressure from Chris Loder MP on local water companies. EDMs increase transparency by measuring how, when and for how long a storm overflow is in operation and provides data to monitor illegal sewage spills.
Mr Loder said: “Since I was elected, I’ve applied relentless pressure on our local water companies – South West Water and Wessex Water – to ensure that they clean up our waterways. As a result, West Dorset’s water companies are now monitoring 100% of storm overflows.”
He added: “I’m committed to cleaning up our rivers and watercourses: my Clean Rivers of West Dorset taskforce regularly brings together local river stakeholders and water companies to press for improvements, pool resources and share data.”
The local MP added: “The completion of storm overflow monitoring is a significant step forward in better protecting our precious waterways in West Dorset. I will continue to push for accountability to improve water quality and will continue to push for more improvements.”
