Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, welcomed the Minister for Water and Rural Growth, Robbie Moore, on a visit to Charmouth on the 27th February. The Minister met with representatives of the Clean Rivers of West Dorset (CRoWD), a pioneering local taskforce that was established in 2022 with the MP and local representatives to monitor water quality.
Mr Loder said: “It’s great to have the Water Minister visit West Dorset, who has paid tribute to the members and participants of CRoWD. Together, we have achieved a great deal for the River Char and surrounding waterways, including investment for the River Brit Catchment; the clean-up of nurdles and microplastics at Charmouth; pressure for re-designation of Church Cliff Beach in Lyme Regis; and over £620,000 for flood prevention in the area announced just this week.”
Minister Robbie Moore said: “It’s been really good to meet with volunteers who have been specifically involved in wanting to make sure that we have the best possible water quality going. And not only have we talked about the Brit Landscape Recovery Scheme, which is fantastic – 54 farmers involved in it, 3,700-hectare scheme which is one of the few landscape recovery schemes rolled out across England. But also talking about improving the water quality along the West Dorset coastline. It’s great to have those conversations and to have such good community involvement.”
