Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has advanced his long-standing campaign to ban the export of live animals. The Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill, which received its Second Reading on the 18th December, will put an end to the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening from Great Britain, ending unnecessary stress, exhaustion, and injury on long journeys.
The Secretary of State, Rt Hon Steve Barclay paid tribute to Mr Loder from the dispatch box of the House of Commons when presenting the Bill.
Since his election in 2019, Mr Loder has persistently campaigned for a permanent ban to prevent any future exports. The local MP has spoken regularly on the topic, most notably in 2020 when he urged Members to ensure the practice was banned.
The local MP said: “I’ve long campaigned for the Animal Welfare (Live Exports) Bill to be introduced, and I will support its passage through Parliament to make sure this practice is outlawed.”
