Following the local elections last Thursday, Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has paid tribute to outgoing Dorset Councillors, and has expressed his congratulations to all new and re-elected Councillors across the constituency. Mr Loder – who served as a councillor on West Dorset District Council over 10 years ago – also welcomed the re-election of David Sidwick as Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Mr Loder said: “I’d like to congratulate all our new and re-elected Councillors elected across West Dorset. I’d also like to pay tribute to outgoing Dorset Councillors for all their work for the public good - often for many decades. Kelvin Clayton from Bridport. Molly Rennie, who has represented Dorchester for decades on either Dorset Council or its predecessors. Mark Roberts from Chesil Bank, who likewise has given years of service in the south. But particularly to Tony Alford and Mary Penfold – both of whom have retired after many, many years’ service. Most of these people I served alongside on West Dorset District Council some 10 years ago.”
He added: “I will be closely scrutinising the policies of the new Liberal Democrat administration over the coming weeks and months. With a majority of just one councillor, it will be interesting to see what direction the Liberal Democrats take Dorset Council.”
