Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has expressed his support for the introduction of legislation to quash the wrongful convictions of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters implicated in the Horizon IT scandal. Mr Loder, who has spoken in Parliament about the injustices of the Post Office, has publicly called for ‘real and proper justice for everyone affected’ and has welcomed the Post Office (Horizon System) Offences Bill. Mr Loder said:
“This Bill will exonerate victims of the Horizon IT scandal, quashing wrongful convictions and providing affected sub-postmasters with an interim payment and the option of taking an immediate fixed and final offer of £600,000. It is only right that affected postmasters are properly compensated and can rebuild their lives, and I will be supporting this legislation at all stages in Parliament.”
It is the Government’s intention for this legislation to achieve Royall Assent as soon as possible ahead of the summer recess.
