Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has welcomed a new £80 million fund to upgrade social housing in England. Eligible landlords in West Dorset can apply for a share of the funding to upgrade the heating and energy efficiency of their social housing stock. The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund: Wave 2 will open in November. The local MP said:
"At the moment, there are 4 million social homes in England, of which 1.2 million need energy efficiency upgrades. We have our fair share here in West Dorset, which houses some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in society. It is not right that people are living in cold, draughty social homes and are paying higher energy bills as a result."
Mr Loder continued: "Social housing landlords can apply for grants to upgrade their properties, and I would strongly advise any that are based in West Dorset to do so. The funding will help deliver warmer homes, tackle fuel poverty, and reduce carbon emissions.”
