West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder welcomes an anticipated council by-election for the Sherborne West ward, following the resignation of Cllr Matthew Hall on the 9th May. Mr Loder said:
“I am pleased that the Liberal Democrat councillor for Sherborne West has resigned. This is an outcome I have been calling for since last October, when it became apparent how ineffective and absent Cllr Hall was at addressing significant issues, such as the re-opening of Kitt Hill”.
Cllr Hall, who does not live in Dorset but who has continued to “represent” Sherborne West, resigned his seat only as a result of winning an election in Exmouth, Devon – some 55 miles from Sherborne.
Mr Loder added: “As someone who was born in Sherborne and who knows the town and residents well, I now think the vacant seat deserves a local person who truly understands the local area and is willing to help people. Sherborne West deserves better”.
