West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder met with staff and students at Budmouth Academy, Weymouth on Friday 12th May to discuss social mobility and improvements to the site’s buildings.
The local MP was given a tour of the site by the Principal, Mike Hoffman, who identified the several buildings on the site that are earmarked for improvements under the recent tranche of the School Rebuilding Programme and that need expediting. Mr Loder said:
“It’s good news that Budmouth Academy has been selected as one of several educational providers in West Dorset to benefit from improvements devised by the Department for Education. These improvements will benefit pupils’ learning and the overall look of the Academy”
Mr Loder also took questions from students of the School Council and Sixth Form on national and local issues. He continued:
“The Weymouth and Portland area - where Budmouth Academy is situated - is ranked the lowest in England for social mobility. Despite this, students are rightly determined to prove that one’s postcode doesn’t determine your prospects in life, and I fully support their ambitions and will continue to do so however I can.”
