West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder has welcomed an update from the Competition and Market Authority’s Road Fuels Market Study. It follows months of lobbying by the local MP, which saw the Prime Minister confirm to an investigation into fuel pricing disparities.
The ongoing Road Fuels Market Study, which has been taking place since last year, states that ‘higher pump prices cannot be attributed solely to factors outside the control of the retailers’.
The Study continues that ‘fuel margins have increased across the retail market, but in particular for supermarkets’.
Commenting on the update, Mr Loder said:
“This update from the CMA confirms my suspicions about the unfair fuel pricing of the supermarkets. We have been on the receiving end of this immoral practice here in West Dorset, where there has been a disparity of up to 20 pence per litre”.
He continued: “The update also highlights how obstructive the supermarkets have been, as many have not been forthcoming with their evidence. I look forward to reading the final report, which will be issued no later than the 7th July 2023”.
