Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has taken his campaign to ban single-use plastics one step further. On Tuesday 4th July, the Delegated Legislation Committee agreed to advance the Environmental Protection Regulations 2023 for England.
The regulations will restrict the supply of single-use plastic plates, bowls and trays, and will ban the supply of single-use plastic cutlery, balloon sticks and polystyrene food and drink containers, including cups. Speaking about the debate, Mr Loder said:
“The legislation proposed today is needed to support and ensure that all businesses move to more sustainable alternatives to single use plastics. While ongoing voluntary action is having an impact, the supply of single-use plastics does need regulation, not least because we have so much plastic waste, we still have to ship it abroad to process it and that needs to end. This ban is expected to be enforced from October 2023 and I will continue to push for this outcome.”
