Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has welcomed the completion of an £800,000 scheme by Wessex Water to cut the discharges of untreated stormwater on the Jurassic Coast. The new pipeline is designed to protect the villages of West Bexington and Swyre and the UNESCO World Heritage Site coastline. Improvements have been undertaken to increase sewer capacity and to upgrade pumps at both villages. Mr Loder said:
“I have lobbied Wessex Water to deliver on its promises to clean up our rivers and to upgrade its infrastructure, especially along our protected coastline. Wessex Water is a participant in Clean Rivers of West Dorset taskforce, which I set up with others to meet quarterly to discuss the situation we face and the actions required in the constituency. I am glad that these improvements have been completed, and I am aware that this is one of several initiatives taken by the water company to tackle storm overflows.”
