Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, held a summit with Wessex Water’s CEO, Colin Skellett, on the 14th September. The local MP was given a detailed overview by Mr Skellett of the latest situation with West Dorset’s 77 Storm Overflows and 34 Waste Recycling Centres that are managed by the water company. The local MP said:
“Today’s meeting was very productive. I’ve made it clear to the Chief Executive of Wessex Water that more needs to be done to tackle pollution from the company’s Waste Recycling Centres and Storm Overflows from entering our rivers. Colin has confirmed to me that West Dorset will benefit from a share of a £900 million package to remove phosphorous from 2025, and that five of the Waste Recycling Centres in West Dorset are already undergoing major investment to tackle this issue. It’s encouraging news to also learn that, of the area Wessex Water covers in West Dorset, all coastal bathing waters have been rated “Excellent” from 2018.”
