On the 17th November, Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, met with volunteers and users of Dorchester’s Home Library Service. The service is provided by Dorset Council and delivered by volunteers of the Royal Voluntary Service, who choose and deliver books to customers who are housebound and living at home or in sheltered accommodation. Customers of the service are usually visited every three weeks with books and/or talking books chosen according to their personal preferences.
Speaking about the service, the local MP said: “It’s been fantastic to experience first-hand the thoughtful work of Dorchester’s Home Library Service – a charity which works right across Dorset. The Service’s volunteers provide an important service on a regular basis for many people who are housebound or living with poor mobility.”
Maria Jacobson, Service Manager, said: “We were delighted with the chance to tell Chris Loder MP about the Home Library Service, how it works, and how much it means to our volunteers and our clients. It truly is a lifeline to people who are often isolated and unable to get out much. They love being part of the Library Service, having an interesting and stimulating selection of books delivered regularly, as well as a much looked forward to visit by a trusted volunteer.”
