Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, met with the cash regulator, LINK, last week to ensure access is protected in rural communities. It’s the latest step in Mr Loder’s campaign to protect access to cash, which many rural residents rely on for their banking and finances. The local MP has also written to the CEO of each bank and building society in West Dorset to seek assurances with the local protection of cash in society.
Mr Loder said: “It’s clear that access to cash is a big concern for many of my constituents and I’ve been assured that in towns such as Lyme Regis and Sherborne, the regulator – LINK – will be reviewing the financial landscape over the next few weeks to look at the provision of cash.”
He continued: “In addition, I’ve written to each of the banks and building societies in West Dorset - Lloyds, Natwest, Nationwide, Barclays, and TSB – to ensure they understand the impact of withdrawing from our High Streets. 92% of respondents to my banking survey were against this. It’s vitally important that the banks and building societies do not exclude individuals or prematurely withdraw from our High Streets.”
