Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has welcomed the news that his campaign to ban livestock exports is nearing completion in Parliament. The Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill has completed its Second Reading in the House of Lords, and once passed will put an end to the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening from Great Britain, ending unnecessary stress, exhaustion, and injury on long journeys.
Since his election in 2019, Mr Loder has persistently campaigned for a permanent ban to prevent any future exports. The local MP has spoken regularly on the topic, most notably in 2020 when he urged Members to ensure the practice was banned. Mr Loder’s efforts have also had been recognised by the Secretary of State, Rt Hon Steve Barclay.
The local MP said: “I’ve long campaigned for the Animal Welfare (Live Exports) Bill to be introduced, and I look forward to seeing this practice being outlawed.”
